Gardner Dozois - The Book of Magic (2018)

Mõtlesin enne “The Book of Dragons” ilmumist (kuulu järgi peaks juba postiga siiapoole liikuma!) käesoleva antoloogia viimaks ära lõpetada, ja noh, lõpuks võttis see poolteist aastat aega. Sest olgem ausad, Gardner Dozois viimane koostatud antoloogia (ilmunud küll postuumselt) on parajalt keskpärane kogum jutustusi, millest mõned (Crowley, Powers, Nix) on küll jõudnud aasta parimate valikusse, aga ise ei oskaks küll neist midagi esileküündivamateks pidada. Isegi mu üldine lemmik K. J. Parker on esindatud uimase tekstiga.

Antoloogia jätkab siis “The Book of Swords” liini, lisandunud on küll mitmed SF lood (kuivõrd maagia pole puiselt fantasy’s kinni), kuid … uimane ja hajevil mulje jääb - hakka või uskuma, et vahel võibki kasuks olla toimetaja aktiivsem sekkumine (mitte et mul oleks mingitki aimu selle antoloogia koostamise telgitagustest).

Kui lugude hindamise puhul ei saa ükski tekst enamat kui 5, siis ei oska omalt poolt tõesti midagi soovitada.
